BRAD
KRUMHOLZ (Artistic Director)
Brad
Krumholz is co-founder and artistic director
of NACL Theatre. Since
founding the company in 1997, he has directed The
Secret Storey, A Canon for the
Blue Moon, The Passion according
to G.H., ASPHYXIA and Other
Promises, Arca Nova, The
Time Cycle, an outdoor stilt show entitled Invisible
Neighborhood, TERROTICA, and
The Uncanny Appearance of
Sherlock Holmes. He
has toured to Canada, England, Italy, Serbia, Bulgaria,
and Romania with NACL as director and teacher. Since
1990 he has worked in the field of ensemble experimental
theatre, first as a student at the Odin Teatret in Denmark,
and then with Richard Fowler of Canada’s Primus
Theatre. Krumholz was a founding member of Cleveland’s
Theatre Labyrinth (dir. Raymond Bobgan), an experimental
troupe with whom he developed and performed major roles
in Pinocchio Rising, Inanna’s
Descent, and Transformations of Lucius. He
holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University
of Pennsylvania, and his essay, “The Problem of
Movement Theatre” was
published in the Allworth Press book, Movement for
Actors. Recently, he was a collaborating actor
on NACL’s The
Mystery of Lakewood House, an environmental
theatre performance which premiered at the 2005 The NACL
Catskill Festival of New Theatre.

TANNIS
KOWALCHUK (Artistic Director)
Tannis Kowalchuk is co-founder,
actress, and artistic director of NACL Theatre
(North American Cultural Laboratory), an ensemble
that operates a theatre and artists residence in
Highland Lake, NY. Prior to coming to New York
in 1997, she was a graduate of The University of
Winnipeg Theatre department and a core member of
Primus Theatre, a prominent experimental theatre
troupe based in Winnipeg, Canada. With NACL she
has toured to Canada, England, Italy, and Balkan
Europe, and has created and performed lead roles
in The Secret Storey, A
Canon for the Blue Moon,
ASPHYXIA and Other Promises, Arca
Nova, The Time
Cycle, Invisible Neighborhood, and 10
Brecht Poems.
10 Brecht Poems has toured extensively to over
30 venues including: PS 122, The Brecht Forum,
Theatre Building Chicago, The KO Festival, NYU,
Penn State, Brown University, Rutgers, Muhlenberg
College, Maryland Ensemble Theatre, The Goethe
Institute in Washington DC, The Bowery Poetry Club
and Pontine Theatre in New Hampshire. Her one-woman
performance, The Passion according to G.H. has
played in New York, Toronto, Cleveland, Washington,
DC, Maine, Philadelphia, Halifax, and Montreal.
She created The Confessions of Punch and Judy with
director Raymond Bobgan (Cleveland Public Theatre)
and actor Ker Wells (Number Eleven Theatre, Toronto).
The Confessions of Punch and Judy has toured to
Cleveland Public Theatre, HERE Arts Center (New
York City), Theatre Centre (Toronto, Canada), On
the Waterfront Festival (Halifax, Canada), The
Network of Ensemble Theatre’s Festival (CA),
The Mad River Festival (Blue Lake, CA), Manitoulin island,
and Theatre Projects Manitoba in Winnipeg. In 2005, Tannis
was a guest lecturer at Rutgers University where she
played the role of Mother Courage in Mother Courage and
Her Children. She is a collaborating artist/performer
on The Mystery of Lakewood House, a site specific performance
developed collaboratively at NACL with an international
company in 2005/6. Kowalchuk continues to tour her repertory
throughout the year and is currently working on NACL’s
newest show, The Uncanny Appearance
of Sherlock Holmes.

Sarah
Dey Hirshan has been a performer with NACL since 2003. She originated her roles in Terrotica, American Value, The Mystery of Lakewood House, and The Uncanny Appearance of Sherlock Holmes. Sarah has also performed with New York City based companies including Under The Table, and The International WOW Company. Outside of NACL’s daily actor training, Sarah continues to train with Brooklyn based acrobatic/dance company LAVA and Odin Teatret actress Roberta Carreri. Sarah received her B.A. in theatre from Wesleyan University.

GLENN
HALL (Ensemble Member)
Glenn
Hall is a performer, playwright and director. His first show as ensemble member of NACL is The Uncanny Appearance of Sherlock Holmes. Before coming to NACL in 2006, he worked with three emerging experimental performance companies in Winnipeg, Canada. As co-founder and ensemble member of Avera Theatre, he developed roles in Forgotten Rooms and the site-specific Stories for Late Night Drinkers, which played in a turn of the century mansion. With out of line theatre he created roles in Life of a Secret, Before the Law, and S&M. He has also worked with Sight Unseen Productions, most notably on the dance/film piece How to Live Alone. He has directed a new work ( Ease), an old work ( Miss Julie) and a collaborative work ( Solid and Shade), as well as co-directing NACL’s annual Teen Drama Workshops (2007's Romeo & Juliet, 2008's A Midsummer Night's Dream). In the spring and fall of 2007, Glenn studied with Odin Teatret's Roberta Carreri.
