THE NACL RETREAT CENTER

The NACL Theatre and adjacent Artists Residence is located in Highland Lake, NY, 2.5 hours from New York City in the southwestern Catskill Mountains. The theatre and residence are available to rent for long or short-term retreats. The natural environment inspires concentration and wonder, two key ingredients to finding creativity and openness in your work.

THE THEATRE/GATHERING SPACE

Once a Franciscan church, the historic building has been converted into an open space, with beautiful 36' x 72' wooden floors, lofty, arched, pressed tin ceilings, and all the amenities of a professional theatre. This space is perfect for rehearsals, meetings, workshops, and performances.

THE RESIDENCE

Located next door to the theatre, the 1920’s gambrel-style residence was once a summer resort hotel in the heyday of the Catskills vacation era. Newly renovated, the residence NACL’s artistic and administrative home, boasting a large, fully-equipped kitchen, a common room, a wrap-around porch, outdoor eating areas, and 11 single and double occupancy bedrooms.

THE LAKE

Across the street from the retreat center is Highland Lake, a spring-fed lake that is accessible to all who stay at NACL. There are also lovely walking and biking roads surrounding the retreat center, and a number of hiking paths and swimming holes that are accessible by car.

MEALS

NACL is deeply committed to providing local and organic food to groups and individuals who stay at the retreat center. Willow Wisp Organic Farm is NACL Theatre’s partner farm and can provide organic produce at wholesale prices. If a group desires to hire a caterer or chef during its stay, this can be arranged.
