OUT OF MIND

NACL ORIGINAL CO-PRODUCTION (WORK-IN-PROGRESS)

Neuroscientist Dr. Allison Waters and theatre artist Tannis Kowalchuk cross-pollinate the disciplines of science and theatre to present an unusual hybrid lecture-performance about depression and the way we treat it as a society. In the presentational style of a classic science lecture, the collaborators cross boundaries between lecture and performance, as they share the results of an innovative brain wave (EEG) experiment they performed at Dr. Waters’ lab. Waters and Kowalchuk explore scientific questions with art, and poetic questions with science, rendering complex ideas more accessible to a lay audience. Out of Mind will entertain, provoke thought, and conclude with a question and answer period with the audience to expand a public discourse on the subject of depression. A co-production with Hurleyville Arts Center.
