Live : Work : Dream
Located in Highland Lake, NY, two hours from New York City in the southwestern Catskills along the Upper Delaware River, the NACL complex includes the performance and rehearsal hall and adjacent artist residence. The grounds include a private yard and two wooded acres, providing opportunities to work, play, or relax outdoors. A short walk across the street leads to the shore of Highland Lake, accessible to all who stay at NACL. There are also quiet walking and biking roads surrounding the retreat center, and a number of hiking paths and swimming holes accessible by car.
St. Bernardine’s Chapel
Once a Franciscan church, this historic building (c. 1922) has been converted into a flexible open space accommodating proscenium-style or alternative audience seating configurations, with beautiful 36' x 72' wooden floors, raised stage, a barrel-vaulted, pressed tin ceiling, 17.5’-high lighting grid, and the necessary technical equipment to support production light, sound, and projection.
Lakewood House
Located next door to the performance hall, the 1920’s gambrel-style artist residence was once a summer resort hotel in the heyday of the Catskills vacation era. Newly renovated, the NACL artistic and administrative home boasts a large, fully-equipped kitchen, a common room, a wrap-around sitting porch, outdoor eating areas, and 10 single and double occupancy bedrooms.
REHEARSAL & RENTAL AVAILABILITY
The NACL performance hall can be available to local and visiting artists for rehearsal space, performances, and events. The artist residence can also be rented for retreats. Please contact us for rates and scheduling.
